Hi all back again and this, Part 4, of the series sees new beginnings for Buffy and the gang as season 4 sees our favourite characters move beyond their high school trappings and move further into adulthood, growing in much the same way as their audience was. As Buffy and Willow begin college, Xander and Giles are left to ponder their places in the slayer's life.
This season sees our young hero endeavour to move past her whirlwind love affair that was Angel and develop a more mature healthy relationship with Riley, a seemingly nice guy. But where would the series be without a little drama right? As the story unfolds we as the audience come to realise that Riley and his fraternity brothers are actually super soldiers lead by Professor Maggie Walsh, one of Buffy's teachers, who heads up The Initiative; a secret government organisation tasked with the capture, study and termination of demonic threats, which at first sounds like a match made in heaven for the slayer but as the season moves along Buffy and her friends begin to realise that not all is what it seems with the Initiative. And then we meet Adam.
The subsequent foe for the gang this season. Adam was the product of the ghastly experiments conducted by Professor Walsh under the guise of The Initiative. Part human, part demon, part cyborg. Adam took on a life of his own and became almost unstoppable. It wasn't until the revelation of how Adam was created was revealed that Riley began to truly reconsider his place at The Initiative and where his future would really lie.
While this season builds to the final showdown that is the same with each of the seasons previous and that follow, season 4 saw our characters examine more closely their own individual roles both within the group and who they were as people. Primarily, its Willow who experiences the most personal growth with the development of her magical abilities and the path that her love life was to take. But we cannot draw this part of Villains of Buffy to a close without at least a mention of our favourite blonde vampire. That's right I am talking about Spike and the beginning of his infatuation with our young heroine, you'll just have to stay posted for more.
