With the large variety of shows to grace the small screen and the increased use of special effects it would be easy for a show to be overlooked because it may not be seen to be as flashy as others. Downton Abbey should not be one of those shows.
A chronicle of the lives of the British aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early 20th Century, Downton Abbey is a masterpiece of story-telling. With an ensemble cast that includes the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Dame Maggie Smith the success of this show could really come as no surprise. Running for 6 seasons before concluding, the series quickly became a fan favourite due to the likeable characters and the old time feel of the early 1900s. A time when many things we would not think twice about today, were absolutely scandalous shows just how far we've come as a society in such a way that you can't help but to laugh and cry along with the characters both upstairs and below.
For making me love both the costume design and the abbey itself, I give it 4/5.
