Although not my usual cup of tea, recently I was happened to come across a documentary series that was really quite fascinating. Entitled "Barbarians Rising", the show followed the rise and subsequent fall of the Roman Empire and how the revolt of the peoples who were forced into submission by the might of the empire became the driving force of its demise.
The series covered some of the most infamous barbarians throughout the ancient world from Hannibal to Spartacus, Boudica to Gaiseric. Each of which played their own part in the eventual destruction of the once mighty Roman Empire. The series was not light on describing the brutality inflicted by both sides in the seemingly endless violence and that is part of what makes the show so interesting because more often than not truth is just as entertaining as fiction.
Definitely worth the watch for any history fan, I give it 3.5/5.
